Timeline
Childhood: born late 1780s to a Scottish family, attends Eton boarding school.
Young adulthood: attends Oxford. Joins a group including Robert Smirke, Mordechai Luckas, and George Gilbert Scott, investigating esoteric incidents which they link to the Dread Powers.
1814: founds the Magnus Institute in Edinburgh. Begins collecting stories he believes to be connected to the fears.
1815-1821: Millibank prison built and completed in London, with the help of Robert Smirke. Designed to be the seat of the Watcher's Crown.
1815, spring: visits Albrecht von Closen.
1816, 21st March : receives a letter from von Closen. They frequently communicated. Albrecht later travels to visit Jonah and gives him a book related to this letter.
1824, April 9th: receives a letter from Barnabas Bennett, shortly before his death. Jonah is acquainted with Mordechai Luckas.
1830: steals a number of books from von Closen. He returns some books, however they are blank.
1831, April: hearing that Albrecht von Closen is ill, Jonah asks a doctor, Jonathan Fanshawe, to visit him and see what can be done. During his time there, Fanshawe feels as though he is under constant observation by something unseen.
1831, November 21st: receives a letter from Dr. Jonathan Fanshawe about events leading to the death of Albrecht van Closen. Jonah had invited Fanshawe to take a medical position in Millibank prison, which he declined. Due to the events of this letter, Jonathan decided to sever ties with Jonah Magnus completely.
1841, 12th June: receives a letter from Sampson Kempthorne before he moves to New Zealand. A period in which Jonah was working incessantly in his Edinburgh townhouse with letters and accounts of the Fears.
post 1841: Elias attempts the Watcher's Crown ritual in Millibank. It fails, killing all inside but Elias. He discovers his failure has given him extraordinary powers, and he moves the Magnus Institute to London, over the old Millibank Prison site.
1864: will have come into contact with Maxwell Rayner around Cambridge, very popular at the time.
1867, 13th February: receives a letter from Robert Smirke. The two have not communicated for several decades at this point.
