Oh, without question. I fear an endless, meaningless existence on this Barge. A life devoid of purpose. Empty.

But that is no secret, and therefore has no power. It is the things hidden, deep in the dark corners of our souls, that are the key to power over others. What are the things we will not face about ourselves? The thoughts which keep us awake at night? The shadow selves we pretend we do not see.

Jonathan Sims is marked with fear, all the way through to his core. He carries it within him, and he knows this, and so in many ways it cannot be used against him.

[ But there are ways, he doesn't add. He isn't one ever to just give something away when someone ought first to ask for it-- to seek it out when they shouldn't. ]
