Don't worry. I'm aware that the class I was born into can be patently ridiculous about certain things. You're clearly from a much more warlike place and time than I am.
[ he's eyeing up the weapons actually, as if very curious about them all.
which he is. he works in the kitchens and can't even get a knife out, and here are all these lovely sharp implements... ]
Well, it's not so much war exactly. I do have a cousin! Who's, uh, the god of war, technically, but where I come from, if you don't fight, well, you're hardly considered much of a person at all, are you? You can be condemned for not fighting.
[Zagreus follows Elias' gaze, and gives a grin when he sees where he's looking. There are six weapons in total; a sword, a spiked shield, a spear, two spiked boxing gloves, a bow, and inexplicably, a strange-looking gun]
[Zagreus brightens and goes to get them down from the wall, encasing the enormous gloves in his own small fists. He's dwarfed by them]
Oh, yes. These are the Twin Fists of Malphon. I expect any Titan would run screaming from them. They were a weapon of my grandmother's; as she tilled the soil, so did she reap the ruin of the great god Hyperion and slew his legacy all over the earth.
[ And there's the context. Elias has a classical education, he knows the names and can place them geographically and historically. Not that they'll be accurate, he's already met a Dracula who was very dismissive of the classic Dracula rumours.
But it's a start. ]
Punch a regular mortal with those and he'll need more than a few stitches.
Well, if you're curious to know, they're mostly imbued with Titan blood. It makes them stronger; I forged Stygius there, the sword, back together after it shattered using my own blood as a coolant. They have a mind of their own, and I mean that literally.
[ that's just lovely to hear, even if Elias keeps his expression fairly neutral ]
No, with what I've-- learned of his myths, I imagine father figure wouldn't be among his strengths. But let's not speak of disappointing families. You aren't the one here to be helped to change.
All long dead, I'm afraid. And nothing very interesting or traumatic to be shared. Distant parents, boarding school, the responsibility of the family name on my shoulders from a young age...
Oh, good. Because I don't know how qualified I am to give it.
I am qualified to go to battle for you, though, sir. I want you to be able to rely on me to protect you if you feel in danger. Even when we're unpaired.
I'm not really bothered by that. I'm not a very popular person where I come from, and I spend a...yes, lots of time with people who aren't very popular. Fallen kings, betrayers, murderers.

Which one do you like?

but for the time being he approaches the spiked boxing gloves. ]
I see the purpose behind them, but it does seem rather... much.
[ he doesn't sound disapproving. just curious. ]

[Zagreus hurriedly puts them back. As he does, Malphon - the sentinent weapon itself - seems to shudder]
Sorry. Hope I didn't intimidate you.

[ He doesn't seem to share the shudder going around at the thought of using those on someone without the ability to withstand it. ]

Now, forgive me if I've been woefully educated, but I've always associated Stygian things with Hades of the Greek pantheon. But that isn't you.

That would be my father.

[ He indicates back towards the door. ]
That does put a few things in context.

[ he shrugs, seeming entirely unaffected ]
I've done well for myself.

What's boarding school?

Sorry. I think this is why I haven't had permanent placement yet; I barely understand any of what it must have been like for you there.

I don't mind. Really.
